Tickets are about $8.65 for one way airport transit and can be purchased with cash or credit card on site. You can load double that fare and keep your ticket for your return trip. Departures occur approx every 20 minutes. Travel time to downtown approx 30 minutes.

The BART station at SFO is located in the International Terminal. It's a short walk from United Airlines in Terminal 3 and a slightly longer walk from Terminal 1. You can also take the free AirTrain from both terminals directly to the BART station. Just follow the signs to AirTrain and board the Red Line train. When you arrive, take the escalator down to the departures level and walk straight ahead to the BART station. Terminals 1, 2 & 3 are approximately a one to three-minute AirTrain ride to the BART station. more info.

Approx $50 to downtown SF, fare is dependent on distance and traffic. During rush hour, taxis may take longer than BART, however they will drop you off exactly where you want to go.

Shared shuttle service. Can be taken impromptu upon arrival at SFO or booked in advance for transport to SFO. Rates start at $20. Transit time can be over 1 hour due to multiple stops. more info.

Despite locals' love/hate relationship with MUNI, it is very convenient and dependable. MUNI provides bus and light rail services throughout the city of San Francisco, fare is $2 – paid in cash to the driver (or from ticket machines in the underground stations downtown), drivers will not make change!!! Make sure you have the exact amount or forfeit a larger bill. Hold on to your voucher – it is good for any transfers or returns within 90 minutes of issuance and is proof of your payment. Used mostly for transportation in and out of SF (airport, East Bay, etc) BART is super easy and convenient to use. If traveling within SF city limits between two BART points, this is the fastest method of travel. (ie traveling between the Mission and downtown.) Fares vary between $1 and $4, depending on distance. If you're planning on making several trips, load up your BART card (non-refundable) for quicker transit. more info.

Taxis (Yellow Cab, Luxor, DeSoto) are fairly easy to catch and most take credit cards. You can also call for pick-ups, although wait times vary.

Uber and Lyft are the new SF transit darlings. Albeit a steeper learning curve than taxis, those with smartphones and tech prowess will find the Uber and Lyft apps user-friendly and very convenient.

Convenient and fast, although service is limited to select destinations. Great for trips to Oakland and Berkeley.

All the major companies have pick-up spots in various SF locations. Recommended only for transit outside of SF city limits! While parking is easier during Labor Day weekend than typical days, it is VERY expensive to park a car if staying downtown- expect $40+ parking per day in addition to accommodation.
